We would like to acknowledge and show our respect to the Ngunawal tribe the traditional custodians of the Canberra region where the future lodge of the prime minister will be built.

The New built structure offers a reconciliation meeting place. The main aim of this proposal is to provide transformable1 meeting spaces. The new lodge will offer a dual role of private and public places. The main morphology of the design is inspired by local granitic composition and the stories expressed by the drawings of the indigenous of the region.

Canberra as a word is claimed to derive from the word Kambera or Canberry and means “meeting place” in the old Ngunnawal language of the local Nagabri people.

The design is controlled by Kinetic skin which will maximize the use of sustainable solutions in the design, the actual form is morphed as unique pieces of rocks which was inspired by the ancient geology formation of Canberra, in particular the Adamellite; a granitic rock.

The cracks in the rocks become the fenestration in the building blocks of the lodge. This will allow light, ventilation, and vertical circulation. The green paths swirling through the open spaces and between the building elements to become an indoor space in the lodge. The indoor public roof is covered by a kinetic mesh that is driven by real-time sensors that allow it to expand to bring more oxygen, sun and cross ventilation into interior spaces.
